Extra Help - Low Income Subsidy
Do you have Medicare, live on a lmited income and need help to pay for your prescriptions?
"Extra Help" is a Medicare program to help people with limited income and resources pay Medicare prescription drug program costs, such as premiums, deductibles, and coinsurance.
How can "Extra Help" help me?
In 2018, recipients will pay no more than $3.35 for each generic and $8.35 for each brand name covered prescription.
In 2019, costs are no more than $3.40 for each generic and $8.50 for each brand-name covered drug.
Other recipients will pay only a portion of their Medicare Drug Plan (Part D) premiums and deductibles based on their income level.
Do I Qualify?
- Individual - $17,466 annually
- Married Couple - $23,514 annually
- Individual - $9,360
- Married Couple - $14,800
Countable resources include; real estate (other than your primary residence), money in a checking or savings account, stocks, bonds and mutual funds.
Countable resources don't include; your home, one car, burial plot, furniture, and other household and personal items.
Some People Automatically Qualify for "Extra Help"
You automatically qualify for "Extra Help" if you have Medicare and meet any of the following conditions:
- Have full Medicaid coverage
- Get help from a Medicare Savings Program
- Get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Benefits
